It's almost that time!

There's excitement, nervousness.... the nesting instinct has kicked in.

The nursery is complete, with all of the matching pillows and stuffed animals.

The closet is packed with little more itty bitty clothes than he will possibly be able to wear.

Pediatrician? Check.

Car seat? Check.

Stroller? Check.

That blanket that he won't want to give up when he's three? Check.

D0n't forget about YOU! What have you packed for your bag?

Below is a list of items that can be useful during and after labor.

  • Socks- If you are like me, your feet will get cold. Pack some warm fuzzy socks

  • Lip balm- If you are birthing in a hospital, they will most likely only give you ice chips- so having this on hand will be helpful with the dry lips.

  • Scented lotion- Having your favorite scent from home can be comforting and a way to focus on something during the contractions.

  • A soft hand towel- The towels at the hospital are not exactly luxury. A lot of women become nauseated during transition. Having a cool towel can help to relieve that some, having something from home can be comforting.

  • A pillow or blanket from home- A lot of women like to have something familiar with them. This is a great option, and so much more comfortable than the hospital pillows.

  • A robe- A pretty robe with easy access for breastfeeding can really go a long way toward making mom feel pretty in the days after baby is born.

  • Toiletries- You will need your toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, deodorant- all of the normal day to day items. It may be helpful to buy the travel-sized items and put them in a small make-up bag.

  • Heavy duty pads- The extra long- overnight pads are great for the first couple of days after baby is born, and are much more comfortable than the hospital diapers.

  • Snacks- Bring your favorite snacks from home- something that doesn't need to be refrigerated is best. You don't want to rely on the hospital food. Even GOOD hospital food is still hospital food.

  • Your cell phone charger- You will want to call friends and family to tell them the good news and keep them updated.

  • A camera- If you decide to not to hire a professional (GASP).. .Then you at least want good quality images. There are some things that cellphone cameras are great for. This is not one of them. Do not leave your special day to a cellphone camera. Please.

  • Baby's first outfit- Pack two in case he poops all over the first one.... trust me- it will happen eventually.

  • Baby's memory book- To record the details of the little one's arrival, and his footprints!

  • Bottles/ pacifier- Again, the hospital does provide these, but if you are going to use a pacifier and/ or bottle, it's smart to start baby on the ones that he will be using at home.

  • A soft blanket to wrap baby in- Soft. Baby. Enough said.
