How do you achieve those precious sleeping baby poses that everyone loves? Following the newborn prep guide that your photographer gives you is essential. If you don't understand something that your photographer is asking you to do, please talk with them. It is our goal to make your experience as enjoyable as possible while giving you memories that you can cherish for a lifetime. In the following weeks, I will be going over some of the things that I have in my prep guide and why it is important, as well as tricks and tips to help us create a magical image together.

Keeping Baby Awake
This may seem like a silly thing to do, especially since you are exhausted as a parent of a newborn, but it is very important. If baby naps before his/her session, then more than likely, they will be wide awake for their pictures. An awake baby is much harder to pose and usually gets fussy when they are handled and moved around. Compared to a baby who is sound asleep, and can be gently arranged and positioned without being startled.
It is recommended that you keep the baby awake for a minimum of one to two hours before the session. Most newborn sessions are done between four and fourteen days of age. This is an age that baby sleeps A LOT. Keeping your little one up for two hours may be challenging. Here are some things that you can try:

- Talk to your baby- sing songs (not lullabies)
- Change baby's diaper
- Tickle baby's feet
- Apply a cool wash cloth to baby's feet or back
- Hand baby to Dad or a grandparent to help keep baby occupied if you are beginning to feel stressed.
- Give baby a bath. (I will discuss this more next week)
Have a question? Send me a message and I will try to answer it in next week's blog.
